House Fire w/ Entrapment - Hotel Road
Wednesday, July 4, 2018
At 19:21 hours today December 20th Bishopville, Showell Volunteer Fire Department, and Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company were alerted to a structure fire with entrapment at 9731 Hotel Road. A Worcester County Emergency Services 911 call taker was able to maintain contact with the person trapped which allowed dispatchers to provide first responders detailed information. First arriving firefighter M. McCabe and a deputy from the Worcester County Sheriff's Office were able to safely pull the victim out of the house who was approximately 4 feet in from the door despite the heavy smoke they faced. The victim was treated by EMS however refused transport to the hospital. A victim who self evacuated was transported to AGH with minor injuries.
The incident displayed the great teamwork from the 911 call takers to the strong work displayed by local law enforcement and first responders who work together in order to save lives in our community daily. As the situation could have very easily ended in a loss of a life. We would specially like to thank Worcester County Sheriffs Department, Showell VFD, Selbyville VFD, Ocean Pines VFD, and Worcester County Emergency Services for their assistance!
